The Client is Always Right

Being an Account Executive for Fourth Avenue Design is something I never imagined I would have done in my five years here at St. Cloud State University. Being an advertising major and sitting through all those design classes, you think when you graduate you will most likely apply for jobs where design will be your focus. For me I wasn’t so sure about that, due to the fact that creating designs is not my strong suite, so as I sat through these design classes struggling to grasp all the different concepts of the Adobe programs I was nervous about the future.
After starting this class and being introduced to this wonderful opportunity Jeff Palm gave us, I was at first very hesitant because I knew designing things for real clients would be a lot of pressure. Professor Palm then talked about the Account Executive role, and I knew this is where I would fit in for this service learning project.
Angie Dahle has been the client I have mainly been working with throughout the semester of this project. I have been very fortunate to work with Angie; she has been a great introduction into the world of real clients. Although we had some bumps in the road with her first set of designs, she was very willing to let us try again. This is something that most clients would not do. After showing Angie the second set of designs she was blown away and couldn’t believe the quality of work we did in such a short amount of time. On our second attempt, we followed Angie’s requests exactly how she wanted them, which just goes to show the client is always right.
