Taking the Lemon and Making Lemonade

This week we seemed to derail a little. We missed the mark with a client. Now what is important to know is, we picked up the pieces. We took the lemon and made lemonade. Constructive criticism has positive and negative attributes, mostly positive. This week was a great opportunity to learn a tremendous amount of what it takes to be a professional in the advertising industry. Positive, we learned new things we didn’t know. Negative, we have to redo a lot of what we spent time on. Fact, this is a day in the life of an advertising professional.

Advertising is all about being flexible. The client is the pencil, and we are the silly putty that’s wrapped around it to make it a little more interesting. Advertising is about making something out of nothing or for our matter, repurposing what was already there.

It is a blessing to be able to take our lemon and make lemonade. The ability to turn a vision into a product is a true skill. We are all developing this skill. As students we don’t often get the opportunity to gain hands on service learning experiences. This class is pushing us in ways we never expected. If it is really simplified though, we are making something out of nothing for multiple clients. Our classes just became real.

Rough patches are part of life, and we build character by overcoming these rough patches. Today we found out we hit a boulder field. How will we navigate this boulder field? Tune in for our next adventure of taking the lemon and making lemonade.
