Saturday Plans?

Last weekend I spent my Saturday in the library, this past Saturday I spent it competing in a 12-hour ad competition. Fourth Avenue Design sent two teams of four to the competition, Fre$hly Tech and Sharp Design. I must give a round of applause for not only our teams that participated, but all the other teams there as well. It takes a certain kind of dedication as college students to give up an entire Saturday to compete in something completely optional. Many of us students are full-time, working multiple jobs, some even athletes, time is of the essence.
Nevertheless, I am so proud to have competed. I always have had a competitive drive in me since I was a kid. I spent 12 years of my life competitively swimming to gain the top spots and be able to participant at a division II school, so you might have an understanding of where that drive comes from. Though we did not win the competition, I learned so much from working under tight time constraints and with team members I had never collaborated with on a creative campaign.
In a 12-hour ad competition, over nine of the hours are dedicated to design, one hour of preparation for the presentation, hour and a half for the actual presentations, and a anxiously awaited 30 minute deliberation period for the judges. Somewhere in that time we also managed to eat lunch and dinner.
My team, Fre$hly Tech, was made up of Brittney, Newton, Miguel, and myself. Brittney is a CEO at Fourth Avenue Design, Newton a Creative, and Miguel a Creative as well. Brittney brought beautiful designs to the table, which laid out our baseline for the campaign. Newton did wonders on the social media ad graphics while running off of 5 hours of sleep. Miguel created content that moved for each piece, which was a lot. I dabbled in a bit of everything, but I was most proud of how our team worked together to incorporate what we have learned in and out of the classroom. Out of the eight teams, our team was the only team to create a responsive website design, which I think is pretty neat to be able to say that.
Teamwork does make the dream work.
